In the last week or so I have been hitting all of my winter style favorites, from blanket scarves, coats, and now the always cool weather favorite: layering. Often times we just assume that layering consists of the essentials I already went over like scarves, coats and maybe a hat or a chunky knit sweater. Sure that is typical layering, but my preferred winter style of layering has evolved from the extra longline shirts to the oversized jackets and coats. Tricking our eyes to a different focal point, while staying very warm in the low temperatures.
Part of me will always have a soft spot in my heart for the effortless grunge style. Maybe that is part of the reason why I am so in love with layering. Something about waking up and just throwing something on, not because it might be the most flattering piece, but because even though it’s a little big you love it. It could be the fact that it’s your favorite jacket you have had for years and it has taken on a perfect distressed look that will never allow you to throw it away. This “I don’t give a f*** or idgaf” mentality is sometimes a great and comfortable style I like to fall back on.
Although, grunge has thus evolved into our closet staples such as the 90s cult classic plaid shirt around the waist, boyfriend jean, or boyfriend shirt, all the way down to all of our oversized coat and sweater favorites. Grunge essentially paved the way for comfortable fashion.
You won’t always catch me with rolled out of bed grunge style, but I love to take my own twist on it and give it more of a polished look. Pairing my longline olive shirt with a monochromatic black shoe, jean, and denim jacket combo, it not only appeared seamless, but it was extremely comfortable…WINNING. What’s not to love?
