Today is the 3rd day of lent and I’ve decided to give up refined sugar and white flour. I won’t say it has been hard, but I will say that I have had quite the sweet tooth.
There have been so many articles, related to the harmful effects of sugar, this past year and I really want to nip the ‘sugar bug’ right in the bud. I don’t eat overly sugary foods, but I do indulge every now and again. It’s actually quite frustrating giving up sugar and noticing how much sugar is in all our everyday foods to “enhance” the flavor. We are actually consuming much more sugar that we usually realize. My Greek yogurt alone had more than 15g of sugar!!!
I feel like lent is going to be quite the 40 day test and a great jump start into some healthy life changes… that I can hopefully stick to.
Did you give anything up for lent or working towards any health related goals?
p.s. My Stella McCartney reminds me of Candy, if you didn’t already pick up on that! 😉

Good luck with that! I’ve done the same thing a few months ago. I am a nutritionist, so am very aware of the effects of sugar and refined carbs on your health and body. I quit sugar/sweet stuff because I didn’t want to harm my body any longer and was curious if I could live without it 100%… I’ve never been addicted to sweets – my sweet tooth was mainly about a piece of dark chocolate or a slice of carrot cake that I made sometimes (I don’t eat anything shop-bought). Now I just go with the natural treats and honestly – it’s amazing! I know the process can be hard because sugar has the same affect on the brain as cocaine, but just do it for a month and then your body will adjust to the changes nicely. 🙂
Oh, and I love the bag – such a gorgeous bag!

P.S. I am hosting a giveaway at the moment and would love it if you could enter – look out for the Saturday post in case you choose to stop by the blog. 🙂

1. Love that bag! 2. Good luck with the sugar! I’ve been trying to eat more raw sugar and less of the bad kind. I don’t have a huge sweet tooth but sometimes I just need some Sour Patch Kids!
