Lately, you will almost always find me in my go to basics. From a simple chambray to a midi skirt, I am running around from work to dinner in my year round favorite pieces. Now transitioning into a minimalistic wardrobe, it blows my mind how many different combinations you can create with even just your favorite few clothing items.I used to feel embarrassed when I would rewear things over and over again, now I find it to be more like a badge of honor. You realize that the selections you made were in fact the right ones and you have created a staple in your closet.
This funky 50s inspired combination actually was a last minute outfit as I was running out the door for work. With my recent obsession for all things monochromatic, I attempted a full peach look (fyi… don’t try it). Not planning on my outfit not working, I didn’t exactly plan for a back up. In sheer panic mode, I just reached for my classic chambray. To my surprise it worked, quite well actually, creating a 2015 version of a retro classic. My midi skirt gave me a sock hop vibe, while the chambray was a laid back addition, it was the perfect pairing for feminine as casual. I obviously couldn’t resist the perfect opportunity to wear the record cross body bag I recently scored either.
The moral of the story being, ‘Rely on your Basics.’ As much as we wear our favorite sneakers too much, or distressed pair of jeans, we should never feel embarrassed about something that we keep reaching for day after day. Just because in society we never see people wearing something more than once, we shouldn’t be ashamed of wanting to utilize our favorites as much as possible.

It’s like you took the words (in that 1st paragraph) right out of my mouth! I’ve been doing the exact same thing lately– streamlining my closet into simple, clean-lined pieces that I will get a lot of use out of. I think this is where fashion is headed and I love it when I wear something over and over as well! The concept of ‘price per wear’ has never been so important 🙂
