Denim Dare

Your style reflects who you are. What we wear can tell people a lot about our personalities before we even interact with others. For me, denim is the simplest canvas for self-expression. But a lot of us tend to sick to styles we know and are most comfortable with. Let’s face it, it takes a lot for us to branch out with something new.

I recently had the opportunity to review the newly released line of Target denim and was most surprised about the styles that I ended up enjoying the most (Check out my review here).

Although denim is the most universal, every season we are reintroduced to different variations and styles. Some denim styles are neutral and easy to incorporate within your wardrobe, while others are a little more daring and prove to be a challenge.

My favorite styles of denim are always a timeless pair of blue jeans, honestly, the darker the better. Its a comforting feeling putting on a slimming pair of dark jeans that you can always feel your absolute best in. Venturing out of the typical “blue jean” category, always makes me nervous and makes me question my choice before I leave the house. I always love colored denim on others, but I tend to debate the idea of something new the second I put them on myself.

Target asked me to try a new pair of jeans that I wouldn’t normally choose. For me, I feel comfortable in most styles of jeans, however, it’s changing the classic colors that throws me off. Me and white denim have a love hate relationship. Although, white denim looks absolutely fresh and flattering on others, I have always felt it had the opposite effect on myself. Where darker fades and colors slim most of us, white tends to show off everything you have to offer. Not always in a bad way, but lets just say my legs don’t mind leaving a little to the imagination. So when Target asked me to take a dare and wear a denim style I wouldn’t typically choose, I knew I needed to conquer my fear of white skinnies.

Of course it was really easy for me to style a pair of jeans that I feel comfortable in. These light wash skinny jeans are a recent favorite, they are a great color that is easy to style with virtually almost anything in my wardrobe but fit great and are flattering on my body style.

Putting on anything you don’t feel 100% about is a very uncomfortable feeling. Wondering if you made the right choice, maybe what people think as they see you wearing something that you don’t feel confident in. I won’t lie, it took a few nights… a few nights trying on different outfits and staring in the mirror, which is something I hate. Its weird, when I like something I wear I immediately get a great feeling about it and the mirror is like your best friend. Putting on white skinnies and having to face myself and my fear was quite the opposite.

But then, I just sucked it up and switched out the traditional blue jeans with white skinnies and decided I just needed to wear them out, take a chance. So I did.

To my surprise people reacted a lot differently then I reacted in the mirror myself. I quickly realized that I may have been too hard on myself and that I am my own worst critic just because I didn’t think I could pull them off. Immediately my mood changed and wore them like I did my favorite pair of classic blues. Changing styles shouldn’t always be a scary thing. We all need to dare ourselves to try something new and thats exactly what I am daring you guys to do today. I dare you guys to go to Target and try on a denim style that you wouldn’t normally wear. Give something new a chance and don’t like your fear of something different limit your personality.

I accepted the dare and tried a new Target style that I normally wouldn’t pick up. I am loving the newest addition to my wardrobe. Now its your turn!

    Wow, what a difference! You look fabulous in these white skinnies. It looks amazing with the neutral top and leopard heels! I guess it pays to take a risk! I’m usually a risk taker when it comes to my fashion, but I’m still on the fence with white jeans. I have a pair of white denim shorts I love, though!
