Today while I was shooting with my amazing photographer, she pulled me aside and asked me a question, “Do you think your style has evolved much over the last 6 months?” A simple question that made me ponder my style evolution over the year and had me revert back to my New Years resolutions.ย Sticking to a neutral palette and classic patterns, my goal for maintaining a minimalistic wardrobe has actually really started to gain traction, enough for people to notice that is.
With each new purchase or selection I make for new clothing, my mind goes through a bunch of rigorous questions I tend to ask myself. Will it last you more than one season? Can I wear it out and to work? Will it be a nice transition into your other clothing pieces? Is the color too bold, or is it a good neutral?
Even when I purchased this taupe leather jacket and this striped blouse, I made sure it would fit within my new progressionย towards a more minimalistic style. The striped blouse was a fantastic piece that not only I wear for work, but love throwing on aย jacket toย go to the bar and watch the game with my girl friends. Providing me with an outfit that I am comfortable in, regardless of the activity. There is nothing worse than feeling like you need to bring multiple outfits with you for your day.
Having a minimal approach on my wardrobe has allowed me to be much more selective and continues toย save myselfย money, while allowing me to splurge on simple classics that will last me years to come. Although, there are amazing finds that may not cost a lot, it’s better to wear clothing that will give you more than one use. We can always purchase and wear the latest trends, but it is important to establish a solid base to work all your bold and brights within.

I’m all about making investments into more classic pieces that will last for years to come. Jeans, jackets, shoes, etc are all pieces I prefer to splurge on (whatever a “splurge” is may differ from one person to another). Items like tops and trendier items, I still prefer to spend less on, especially if I’m not sure how much I’ll wear them.

honestly, if I could wear blouses and ripped jeans all day er’day I would. Jus’ saying. Love the entire look.
Lesh says
I like how the outfit pieces are from everyday stores. You still look so fashionable but its an outfit that doesn’t need a high end budget. The fact that the blouse and the jacket is from Forever 21 has definitely inspired me to spend more time in my favorite stores to look for stylish pieces.

Lovely outfit and it is an interesting question to ask yourself if your personal style has evolved over time. For me, I think it has, but it still has elements of all the different styles I really loved ever since middle school. For mine the punky alternative part sort of always grounds my looks but it takes different directions from there depending on my mood – boho, retro or indie.

The shirt is amazing, and that bag..LOVE!
I tend to have the same mentality as you – save money and splurge on key pieces rather than getting too much clothes that don’t last long whether because of its’ quality or style. Better to create a wardrobe with quality pieces that reflect your personal style instead of just spending money on the next trend!

I really need to start focusing on a neutral pallet. It’s something I really want to do, but always seem to forget when actually shopping. Ugh! Anyways, you look absolutely amazing and I adore this whole look! The fact that half of it is from F21 amazes me, because it all look incredibly expensive! Gorgeous!
