From Day to Night

Forever21 Pencil Skirt

Maybe it’s because I work in marketing for a living, but am I the only one running around feverishly this December with almost always a serious lack of sleep? On a consistent basis the weeks are consisting of birthdays, holiday parties, deadlines, and promotions that always seem to come up at the last possible second. Which in turn pushes back my full to-do list till the end of the day, keeping me up into the wee hours of the night. These days, with minimal time at home, it’s essential that I wear clothing that not only could be office appropriate, but something I would be able to wear to go to dinner or stop and get a much needed drink. 

Just this evening I found myself working late on some client assignments and from there headed straight to dinner. Fitting everything in is just part of the crazy holiday season and making sure your outfits can take you from day to night can save you some serious time. During the always epic Black Friday sales, I picked up this maroon pencil skirt. Originally attracted to its modern lines and classic shape, I didn’t realize how much of a classic piece this pencil skirt could be. Most of us just own classic black pencil skirts, which are a major staple in all closets. Switching the classic up with a fun jewel tone or variations of styles such as this wrap version, allows us to play with the same professional and modest silhouette, but giving it a more contemporary feel.  It also was the perfect combination for my favorite neutral turtleneck (which I also own in grey, featured here), giving it a more comfortable dress down feel for me, but a polished and professional look to everyone else.

Not only would this look be office appropriate, but it would be the perfect outfit for a company holiday party or outing. Maybe the slit is a little too high for your liking? Try pairing this skirt with your favorite pair of opaque tights for more coverage and extra warmth!
