It’s been a while since I have been on here, which is a usual statement from me lately. I’ve mostly been traveling, working, enjoying free time and trying to accomplish my goals of being more eco-friendly and living more sustainable.
There was something that I have been practicing in my everyday life, and wanted to share with all of you. It has become a near and dear practice and really I think is a big movement in the eco-friendly space. When you hear the term “shopping” do you realize all the impact as a single consumer we have on the market? Looking back on Eleventh & Sixteenth, I feel like such a hypocrite talking about the subject. Originally, I would preach about the latest and greatest shopping trend and frivolous fast-fashion buys from big name and affordable relators.
Circular Economy
Now, after doing research and exploring different options I take sustainable shopping much more seriously. Is this consigned, how is it shipped, what is it made of, fair trade, locally sourced or organic? Seems like a lot of questions, but as I have grown I realize how much value my money is and I really want to make the best possible purchases for the economy and even for my own well-being.
This topic certainly cannot be covered within one blog post alone but the topic of sustainable shopping is big. It all starts with asking yourself how much your dollar is worth and what’s important. I won’t even be able to give up my shopping habit but I can be smarter about it. Companies like The Real Real and Fashionphile allow me to still splurge on my designer obsessions without the gilt of causing over production in the industry.
Did you know that second to oil, the clothing and textile industry is the largest polluter in the world? Thats why as consumers we need to shop sustainable, and think of a circular economy first! Even when it comes to shopping for jewelry, clothing, even accessories.
