First of all, YAY we’re engaged!
This post has been a long time coming. I will use this time to blame COVID-19 for the delays, but to be honest I have just been on cloud 9, enjoying our engagement.
Back in May, Isaac came up with this idea to get out of the house to escape being cooped up in the everyday. After months of staying indoors I dramatically agreed and we planned a few days (during the week to avoid people) to explore Moab, Utah and force ourself to be in nature, away from others.
Once we arrived we checked into our hotel, which probably had approximately 3 other guests besides ourselves. After getting a quick, socially distanced meal we left to explore the red rocks and went on quick hike. What I didn’t realize was that a few hours later, Isaac would surprise me with our engagement, something I was certain wouldn’t be possible.
The Proposal
After hiking in Moab, we ran back to the hotel for a quick bite. Literally, so quick I was wondering why we were eating so soon? “Can’t we just eat in a few hours,” I kept mentioning. “No, we need to be somewhere at sunset, we should eat now so we don’t miss it. It’s supposed to be unreal!” He brought up multiple times. I shrugged and went along with the ride.
I was wearing a Patagonia sweater, leggings, socks and Birkenstocks, typical outdoor gear. What I didn’t realize that this was the outfit I will be wearing for my engagement when I show my children and family this moment…
After a relaxing 35 minute drive, we arrived at Dead Horse State Park. Having gone to Moab one before, this was a location I had not been previously. High up within the Moab mountains, it was quite breezy this evening and I layered up with an additional jacket before we ditched the car to go explore. Isaac insisted on brining a picnic basket (first hint) but clearly I had no idea what was going on. As we stepped out to explore the area, I couldn’t be bothered with Isaac and I went off on my own to venture through this amazing landscape. After about 10 minutes or so, I heard him randomly calling my name to come meet up with him… I still couldn’t be bothered.
I wasn’t until 15 minutes later I trekked him down on the edge of the Dead Horse Point overlook to take in some amazing views before he kindly asked me to remove my coat. “Excuse me, its so windy and cold, why would I remove my jacket…” then it hit me. “Ooooohhhhhhhhhhh, I know whats going on.” The rest happened almost instantaneously. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
The Engagement Ring
He pulled out the most stunning yellow diamond ring, surrounded by gold and I was overwhelmed. It was completely perfect. How could one ring simply encompass exactly the love you share. Warm and sunny, happy and bright, this ring brings me so much joy each time I look down on it. It also is the perfect statement piece to pair with stackable rings to customize my wedding ring everyday. I love it so much.
Now the rest is history. Isaac, I love you so much. Cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with you.
